FEI Updates Lameness Protocol in Dressage and Para-Dressage for 2025
How Equestic SaddleClip Can Help Riders Stay Ahead
The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) has announced an important update to the Dressage and Para-Dressage Lameness Protocol (Article 424.5.1), reinforcing its commitment to equine welfare.
Under the new rule, in cases of marked lameness, the Judge at C will eliminate the athlete, and this decision cannot be appealed.
Additionally, for non-qualifying competitions, horses must undergo a re-inspection by an FEI Veterinarian before being allowed to compete in their next test.
A written summary of all rule changes for 2025 is now available on the newly launched FEI Rules Changes 2025 hub, providing athletes, trainers, and officials with a clear overview of the updated regulations.
Minimizing the Risk of Disqualification with Equestic SaddleClip
With the introduction of stricter lameness evaluation criteria, competitive riders need to take proactive measures to monitor their horse’s locomotion and detect early signs of asymmetry before it affects performance or leads to disqualification.
The Equestic SaddleClip with an advanced Equine Motion Performance Identification (EMPI) framework, provides daily tracking of motion patterns, helping riders and trainers:
- Monitor biomechanical changes that could indicate fatigue or emerging lameness.
- Receive early warnings through the Equestic Intelligence Platform, allowing timely intervention.
- Optimize training loads to ensure peak condition throughout the competition season.
- Track symmetry and consistency in movement, reducing the risk of performance loss or elimination.
By integrating real-time motion tracking and AI-driven insights, Equestic empowers riders to make informed decisions that support their horse’s health, performance, and longevity in sport.
With preventive monitoring, riders can minimize the risk of lameness-related disqualification and ensure their equine athletes remain fit to compete at the highest level.
